3D Commerce Render Fidelity Website

Background

The Render Fidelity website (https://github.khronos.org/glTF-Render-Fidelity/comparison/) provides users a means to compare the rendering of models using different renderers in glTF viewers. The viewers include real-time ones such as Babylon.js and and path tracing glTF viewers such as Dassault’s STELLAR.

The 3D Commerce Working Group (3DC) of The Khronos Group wants to have a new user experience to display this important information for a large variety of devices and sizes to better meet the needs of the glTF and 3D Commerce communities.

This Request for Proposals (RFP) is to solicit bids for the design and building of the Render Fidelity site.

Questions and Answers

You may update or resubmit your proposal in response to these questions or for any other reason as long as it makes the submission deadline 6am PST (GMT-0800) on 3 December 2024. If you wish to resubmit your proposal please send it to this list with an indication that it is an updated document. Only the most recent proposal from each bidder will be considered.

  1. General - Is there a business model/ revenue driver behind the website?
Answer: The driver for this website is primarily education. By showing and comparing results from different glTF Viewers, Khronos hopes to encourage Viewer developers to produce better (as in more accurate and more performant) results.
  2. Design - Does a visual identity already exists or is there a brand guidelines document to be followed for the website design?
Answer: There is no brand guidelines nor visual identity requirements for bidders. Khronos will supply a header and footer that (Requirement II.5.2) that meets the Khronos brand requirements. In general, the header will include the Khronos, glTF and 3D Commerce logos with links to the appropriate places in https://www.khronos.org/. The footer will include links to various Khronos notices and other items similar to https://www.khronos.org/rfp/render-fidelity-website. Neither of the Khronos-supplied header or footer will include intra-site content links (e.g., Render Fidelity menu).
  3. Are there any other websites you like and also you do not like for design & functionality?
Answer: For inspiration of concept, we like the existing site because it allows various glTF Viewers to be compared; however, there is a significant problem in the layout of the pages. We wish to keep the inspiration, but in a layout and design that creates a great user experience.
  4. How different from other Khronos websites can this website look? Can it be totally different or should it clearly belong to the Khronos website “family” aesthetically?
Answer: There are already a number of Khronos developed or maintained sites. The design of these sites already have significant variances. It is not necessary to adhere to any design limitations (except those stated in the requirements). The design does need to work for this site. Page headers and footers are Khronos supplied and will maintain the connection to the Khronos family of sites.
  5. Timings - In Table 1 it calls out 2 month project duration but table 3 (which could supersede table 1) says 11 weeks altogether. We understand it that table 3 takes precedent, is this correct?
Answer: Both tables are informative not normative, and are provided to assist in the construction of a proposal. Table 1 is meant as a quick summary of the work on the project. Table 3 includes 2 weeks of contractor non-work for Khronos approvals. A bidder is free to propose their own schedule, but must allow for the Khronos approvals.
