OpenXR Specification Support 2024 RFP
Background
This RFP is for members only
The OpenXR Working Group (OWG) reviews, maintains, and develops the OpenXR Specification. Many member companies have fully integrated OpenXR as their primary API which means the Working Group is an integral part of their inhouse development. A slowdown in reviewing merge requests or providing quality feedback is a slowdown on the entire industry. OpenXR primarily relies on the goodwill of the Specification Editor and their employer. The OpenXR specification is evolving and editing the document needs additional support. This project provides funds for a business and/or individual(s) to assist the Specification Editor so updates can be delivered on demand to keep up with the accelerating industry.
Scope
Project funds will only be used for the following items:
- Reviews - Reviewing/Providing Feedback on all OpenXR Merge Requests and Issues (including Vendor, Advisory Panel, and public Github).
- Releases - Supporting a consistent OpenXR release schedule, including release-related CI, building, signing, and publishing artifacts/packages/releases for various platforms related to OpenXR (ex. Google Play Store and Debian/Ubuntu).
- Tooling - Writing and maintaining software that supports reviews and releases including the GitLab CI/CD pipeline.
- Training - Writing documentation and/or preparing others for the Spec Support tasks.
- Meetings
- Spec Support-Specific Meetings
- This type of meeting is fully funded under this RFP. For example, a 1-hour meeting with two Specification Support Contractor member representatives may bill a maximum of 2-hours. Regular Weekly OWG MeetingsThese meetings can be billed for one individual at half-rate under this RFP. For example, the weekly 1.5-hour meeting may be billed a maximum of 0.75-hours even if more than one Specification Support Contractor member representative is present.
- It is expected that a member representative from the Specification Support Contractor will attend the weekly OWG meetings.
- F2F Meetings
- These meetings can be billed for one individual at half-rate under this RFP. For example, each day at the F2F goes from 9a-5p or 8 hours. In this case, a maximum of 4 hours can be billed per day even if more than one Specification Support Contractor member representative is present.
- It is expected that a member representative from the Specification Support Contractor will attend F2F meetings (either in-person or virtual).
- Other Meetings
- No other meetings may be billed unless explicitly and specifically requested by the Working Group.
All bidders should provide the following information in the format of their choice:
- Detailed proposal on how you can achieve the project goals and why you’re the best contactor for the project
- Proposed schedule, assuming work starts on 1 April 2024
- Confirmation that if your bid is accepted, you are willing to work under the terms of the Khronos Contractor Agreement
- Any issues or risk factors that they wish to highlight.
- Supporting materials, including background materials about their company, highlighting experience and expertise relevant to this project.

Bidders may update their bid as they wish before the submission deadline. In exceptional circumstances a requested submission deadline extension may be issued to all bidders at Khronos’ discretion. All bids must be good until 11 April 2024.
