Autodesk joins The Khronos Group; glTF gains momentum
Big news! 3D software developer, Autodesk has joined The Khronos Group. Autodesk is an industry-leading provider of 3D design, engineering and entertainment software, that joined the 3D Formats Working Group to support the Khronos glTF file format and the 3D Commerce Exploratory Group, a group of companies exploring standards and guidelines for the production and distribution of real-time 3D representations of products.
The Khronos Safety Critical Advisory Forum: Continuing to grow in 2019
The Khronos Safety Critical Advisory Forum (KSCAF) gathers safety critical experts from a wide range of disciplines, such as transportation and medical imaging, who have experience developing software and products to widely adopting standards. The goal of KSCAF is to develop guidelines and recommendations for engineers creating open standard APIs within Khronos, and elsewhere in the industry, so that those standards can help streamline the product safety certification process. The Forum’s chair looks back on a successful 2018, with plans to expand in the new year ahead.
Khronos Safety Critical Advisory Forum: Details and Why You Should Join
In April, Khronos introduced the Safety Critical Advisory Forum was created in response to developers’ growing concerns and demands of functional safety standards on hardware and software. The advice and support that the forum provides to Khronos Working Groups directly contributes to the creation of SC APIs. Members and non-members can contribute in the forum, this post outlines the benefits of participation.
Congratulating Our Khronie Award Recipients!
Bringing 25 graphics standards to various industries is a collaborative effort, run worldwide across Khronos’ over 100 member companies. We come together three times each year for face-to-face meetings, which present the rare opportunity for all of our active members, Working Groups, and personnel to discuss the goals for the upcoming year to drive our standards forward. These events also present the opportunity to give Khronie Awards to those whose contributions made significant impact to Khronos, our standards, and our mission.
Blog Authoring Now Open to the Khronos Community
New things are always in the pipeline for Khronos, and we want to share the news. We’re rejuvenating the Khronos Blog, with regular blog posts about what we’re doing, what’s happening in our community, and insight from our members. We will have more regular postings from our members and working group chairs, and we’re also opening a call for guest posts from anyone who would like to contribute to the conversation! We want to hear from you; what you see as important in the industry, developments, trends, tips, and new practices from your perspective.
Good Things are coming to VR & Mobile Graphics from the Khronos Group
New for us this year, we participated in VRDC, which was an engaging event that put us in front of a lot of partners and potential new members and gave our members a chance to network as well. We also had over 1,000 attendees at our 3D Graphics Developer Day with people returning to attend sessions such as “Vulkan Game Development on Mobile,” “VR Innovation – Standards for API development,” and “When Vulkan was One: Looking Back, Looking Ahead.” Lastly, our booth at GDC was wildly busy, with talks around the clock. The OpenXR Working Group is Here!
We are pleased to announce the Khronos VR Initiative has decided on the name of the upcoming open standard for virtual reality and augmented reality: OpenXR™! Comprised of a who's-who of industry leaders, the OpenXR working group is creating an open and royalty-free standard for VR and AR applications and devices. OpenXR will encourage innovation while accelerating market growth and user adoption.
